Edmon Lewin Rowell Jr.

Edmon Lewin Rowell, Jr., 76, of 2938 General Lee Road, died Sunday, May 19, 2013. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:00AM at First Baptist Church of Christ, with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Christ, 511 High Street, Macon, Georgia 31201 or to Mercer University Press, 1400 Coleman Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31201. Mr. Rowell served in the U.S. Army (1954-1957) in Korea. Edd was a graduate of Howard College (Samford University) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was pastor of churches in NC, SC, VA, and AL before coming to Mercer University where he was a founder and Senior Editor of the Mercer University Press. While at Mercer University Press he served widely as interim pastor of area churches. Mr. Rowell is survived by his wife, Ruth Rowell of Macon; children, Beth Rowell McGinnis (Scott) of Birmingham, Alabama, Rebecca Rowell Cooke (David) of Macon and Ed Rowell, III (Jackie) of Indianapolis, Indiana; mother, Lurline Rowell of Pinegate; sister, Myrna Rowell Jenness of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Caroline, Beau and Maddie Cooke, William and Kate McGinnis and Sofia and Jacob Rowell. [He] was in a class by [himself]. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. [Edd] was both.-E.B.
