Son of the late Dwight Graham Honeycutt, and Lillian Vines Honeycutt, Dwight was born in Bessemer, Alabama on October 17, 1937.
An accomplished musician, Dwight's passion for classical music was evident as he skillfully played the cello, French horn, and trumpet. His love for sports was equally matched by his enjoyment of a good book, with many evenings spent in the company of both.

He earned the B.A. degree from Mercer University; the B.D. from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; the Th.M from the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Ruschlikon, Switzerland; and the Th.D from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Following pastoral roles in churches in Georgia and Missouri in 1959-72, Honeycutt served the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as associate secretary for missionary personnel in 1972-77 and as a missionary in 1977-88, during which time he served as professor of church history and theology at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Cali, Colombia. From 1988-2008, he served as William A. Carleton professor of church history at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.
Honeycutt published the books Doctrines of Catholicism: An Historical Perspective of Developments from the Reformation through the Second Vatican Council until the Present (English and Spanish editions, 1995) and Henry Clay Vedder His Life and Thought (2008). He has also contributed sermons to The Ministers Manual and articles to several journals: Dialog Teologico, El Heraldo, Journal of Church and State, The Quarterly Review, and The Theological Educator.
Besides serving as interim pastor of many churches in California, Honeycutt has also served as a conference leader, guest scholar, and lecturer in schools in several countries, including Botswana, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, United States, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. He also served as visiting professor of church history at Midwestern Baptist Seminary and ethics professor at New Orleans Baptist Seminary.
