Dr. William (Bill) Leonard Curry passed away on Monday, June 30th, aged 85. Dr. Curry was the Elenor McDonald Storza Professor of Social Sciences and Professor of Psychology at Wesleyan College, where he served on the faculty from 1970 until retiring in 2007. A graduate of Georgia Southern University and the University of Georgia, Dr. Curry was noted for his research in abnormal psychology and his wide breadth of teaching interests. His academic accomplishments include memberships in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology, selection as a Georgia Governor’s Teaching Fellow and receipt of the prestigious Sears Foundation Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award.
Dr. Curry was part of the firmament of Wesleyan College, where he advised countless students, served on a wide variety of administrative committees, and represented to faculty to the President and Board of Trustees. He was also an active public servant, sharing his knowledge of everything from gifted children’s education to serial killers through national news media, publications, and presentations. Students and colleagues will remember his elaborate holiday parties, all-night pig roasts on the Wesleyan quad, and witty conversation.
