Dr. Joseph "Joe" Rowe, Jr.

Joseph S. Rowe Jr, 84, of Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home in late September 2025, surrounded by his family. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed. Originally from Maryland, he lived a life defined by service and love. Following college and medical school, both at Northwestern University, he joined the Army, served in Korea, and trained clinically as a surgeon. His career later evolved to focus on what would become his lifelong professional passion – providing compassionate and dignified end-of-life care for veterans. As a leader in the field of home-based medicine, he embraced the complex interplay of the physical, philosophical, and spiritual, always in service of what was best for his patients.

He loved art, music, dancing, books and bookstores, chess, dad-jokes, and his family most of all. He had a deep admiration for the natural world, especially anything related to the woods or the ocean. He was well known for his ability on the piano, extensive home library, and natural gift on the golf course. He manifested love through service to others and will be remembered most for his warmth, easy smile, consistent kindness, and thoughtful intellect.

He is survived by his loving wife Jamie, son Jack (Katie), and three grandchildren. His ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by sharing a smile with a stranger.
