Douglas Lanier Gowder

June 4, 1943 — November 27, 2008

Douglas Lanier Gowder, of Macon, Georgia, was called to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, 2008. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Hart's Mortuary in downtown Macon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church on Sunday, November 30, 2008. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Macon. The Reverend Joe McDaniel will conduct the services.

Mr. Gowder was born in Commerce, Georgia and had lived in Macon for most of his life. He attended Lanier High School in Macon, and as a young man served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army Reserves. He worked in banking and sales, and was also a deacon at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Gowder is preceded in death by his father, Swayne Joseph Gowder. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Frances Haulbrook Gowder; daughters, Ashlee Hammonds (Matthew) and Andrea Gowder; and former spouse and long-time friend, Cheryl Horton Gowder.

Flowers will be accepted, or those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church, 1415 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210.

Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
