Douglas "Alex" Barringer

June 9, 1946 — December 29, 2020

Douglas “Alex” Barringer, 74, of Macon, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020.  A funeral service will be held Monday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00AM at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola, with the Reverend John Whitehead, Reverend Jim Johnson, and Reverend Richard Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Macon Memorial Park.  The family will greet friends Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola.  The family requests that all service and visitation attendees wear masks.

Mr. Barringer was born in Milledgeville, Georgia and worked at Warner Robins Air Force base for thirty-seven years.  Mr. Barringer served in the Marine Corp in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts for his service.  He was a member of the Middle Georgia Detachment 970 Marine Corp League.  Always willing to serve others, he was named Volunteer of the Year at the Coliseum Medical Center.  Mr. Barringer was a former member of Tattnall Square Presbyterian Church and a current member of United Community Church in Macon where he served as a Deacon.  Mr. Barringer was also a talented floral designer.  He loved to show his home every year at Christmas where he would sometimes have as many as ten trees decorated.  He was a sweet and loving brother; he will be greatly missed by both family and friends.

Mr. Barringer was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Barringer, Jr. and Frances M. Barringer; older brother, John Joseph Barringer, III; and uncle Richard McAllister.  He is survived by his brother, Robert M. Barringer (Margie), of Bonaire; sister, Connie Barringer TeSelle (John), of Lizella; sister, Nancy R. Barringer, of Metter; cousin, Brenda Barringer Cooper, of North Bay, Ontario, Canada; friend, Bill Jones; friend, Dixie Petree; “grand-nieces” Dakota and Avery Ralston; and many more beloved nieces and nephews.
