Dorothy Alice Culpepper Wingfield

Dorothy Alice Culpepper Wingfield, 93, formerly of Perry, GA, passed away Sunday, July 9th. Dorothy was born in Fort Valley, GA, graduated from Fort Valley High School, then graduated as a Registered Nurse from what is now the University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA. Following college, Dorothy joined the Air Force working as a nurse in TX, MS and GA, before becoming a civilian nurse at Robins AFB.

Dorothy was a loving wife, amazing and nurturing mother, giving and generous grandmother, outstanding chef, wonderful gardener, and always had a thirst for knowledge. She also enjoyed reading biographies and crocheting.  She kept her nursing license active for over 40yrs, was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), the Wingfield Family Society, a Red Cross and Cancer Society Volunteer, and loved playing Bridge!

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Dyson Wingfield, and is survived by her daughters Julie (Jeff) Ackemann of Dunwoody, GA, Janie Wingfield of Loveland, CO, and Emelda Gomez of Asuncion, Paraguay; and grandchildren Emily (Bryce) McCoy of Dunwoody, GA, Meghan Ackemann of Greenville, SC, and Jake Wingfield-Wengler of Greeley, CO. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Alice Long Culpepper of Perry, GA, and Charles Frederick Culpepper of Americus, GA, her sister Emma Pauline Culpepper, brothers James Thomas Culpepper of Sarasota, FL, and Charles Frederick Culpepper of Perry, GA, and sister Beverly Thurmond Hatten of Fort Valley, GA. Dorothy is survived by sister-in-law’s Ginger Culpepper Hann(Stephen) of Sarasota, FL,  and Mollie Jones Culpepper of Athens, GA, and nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s daughters will honor their mother by spreading her ashes in her favorite places---the beach, the mountains, and out in the country in a field of wildflowers.
