Dorothy Howell Caldwell

Dorothy Howell Caldwell of Macon, Georgia died from complications of a brain tumor on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. She is survived by her children, Eve Robinson, Alpharetta, Georgia; Ernie Maddox, Richmond Hill, Georgia; and Carol Maddox Lucas, Dry Branch, Georgia; brother, Billy Howell, Warner Robins, Georgia; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her extended family and caretaker, Angela Hooks.

Mrs. Caldwell was born Dorothy Howell on September 13, 1924 in Danville, Georgia to Cleve Henry Howell and Elsie Thompson Howell. She was the oldest of six children and predeceased by parents; sister, Ruby Howell Burnam; and brothers, Luther Howell, Cleve H. Howell, Jr., and Bobby Howell. She is also predeceased by former husbands, Hubert J. Maddox, Howard Caldwell, and Otto J. Jaindl.

She lived in Twiggs County until she moved to Macon, Georgia in 1942. She was employed by Stand Coffee Company, Eye Physician’s Office, and the Top Value Green Stamp and Gold Bond Stamp Redemption Centers. A member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, she enjoyed the XYZ programs at Vineville Baptist Church. Mrs. Caldwell was a Life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and The Woodmen. She loved to travel, cook for her family and friends, shop at estate sales, and play bingo. She was very active until she fell, breaking her legs. She never fully recovered.

Visitation will be between 6:00-8:00PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Hart’s at the Cupola with Sonny Seneker officiating; a reception will follow at the funeral home. Following the reception, a 3:00PM graveside service will be held at Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Franklin Bryant officiating.
