Doris Mills Wood-Alexander passed away April 26, 2026, in Athens, Georgia. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 51 years, Charles Guy Wood, Jr. and her husband of six years, Theodore Sigmund Alexander; her mother, Lois Davenport Mills; her father Luther Griffith Mills, Sr.; her brothers, L. G. Mills, Jr. (Bobbie) and Hampton M. Mills (Sara); her sister, Margaret Elinor Sellers (Larry) and brother in law, John Wood. She is survived by her son, James Louis (Lou) Wood and daughter-in-law, Ponda Caudell Wood; her daughter by marriage, Stacy Alexander Grissim (Steve); son by marriage, Mark Alexander (Tara); granddaughter, Melissa Tirico (Greg); grandson, James (Jim) Louis Wood, Jr., (Kimberly); Marilyn Peterson (Don); sister in law, Adriane Wood; brother in law Joe Alexander; her great grandchildren, Ella Wood, Lily Wood, Sophia Tirico and Brayden Tirico.

Doris was the first Maconite to serve as the GaFWC Junior Director and President of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was made a Life Director of the GaFWC for her many contributions to its causes. While president of the GaFWC she initiated plans for a Chapel on Tallulah Falls School Campus and began the fund drive that made her dream become a reality. Doris and Charlie were charter members of Riverside United Methodist Church and she served as president of the United Methodist Women. She later joined Christ Episcopal Church after marrying Ted Alexander. Other activities include Grand Opera House Board of Governors, The Macon Rotary Club, Morning Music Club, Macon Service League Career Women’s Network where she served on the board and was the recipient of the Career Women’s Network Women of Achievement Award.

Doris worked in the family business at Charlie Wood’s Sporting Goods. Later, she also worked in public relations for Macon Prestressed Concrete Company and ended her working career at the Macon Symphony where she was Director of Development for 10 years and was General Manager for 13 years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Hart’s at the Cupola, with Reverend Dr. Tommy Jordan officiating. The family will greet friends a half hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
