Doris Robertson Shepard

Doris Robertson Shepard, 96, of Byron, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 11:00AM, at Byron Baptist Church, in the chapel. The Reverend Jesse Fortson will officiate. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mercer University Tift College of Education, 1501 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA 31207.

Mrs. Shepard attended Tift College and graduated from Mercer University in 1947. She was the 4th generation family member to attend Mercer. Mrs. Shepard was a member of Byron Baptist Church for 54 years and taught the Sonshine Scatterers Sunday School Class. She also owned and operated Shepard’s Kindergarten for many years. Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Harold Shepard, and her parents, William Gordon and Georgia Robertson. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Harold Shepard, and her sister, Evelyn Jarman.

Survivors: Daughters, Joann Edwards, of Macon, Bonnie (Howard) Collins, of Macon; Sharon (Frank) Funderburk of Byron, and Mary Elizabeth Shepard of Byron; Son, Robert (Kathy) Marion Shepard, of Portland, Oregon; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and her brother, William Gordon (Charlene) Robertson, Jr., of Ellijay, GA.
