Doris Fisk Pumphrey

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 3:00-5:00PM in the Carlyle Place Grand Ballroom, 5300 Zebulon Road, Macon. Married to the love of her life, Norman Pumphrey, who passed in 2009. Survived and adored by her daughters, Noreen King (Bryce), Jan Buckalew (Paul), Marty Duerr (Steffan), and Martha Wassenaar (Randy); 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Barbara McBride (Dan); sister-in-law, Patricia Clark (Grady); Virginia Webb; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Please come celebrate with us this remarkable woman's life and the joy she spread to everyone she met. Doris grew up in Huntington Woods, Michigan and went on to graduate from Central Michigan University obtaining her B.A. to become a teacher. She taught elementary school in St. Clair Shores, Michigan then moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1960 where she continued teaching elementary school. She obtained her Master's Degree at Florida Atlantic University. Doris and Norman married in 1969 when she retired from teaching to raise their four beautiful daughters. Doris and Norm had a passion for travel and experienced many adventures around the world. They left Florida in 1986 to make their new home in Macon, where Norm became an inspector for the Macon Water Authority and Doris became a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation where she worked for many years fulfilling the wishes of so many children. An avid lover of theatre, Doris and Norm became patrons of Macon Little Theater where they enjoyed hundreds of plays over the years and met so many marvelous people here in Macon. She will be missed by so many people, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We love you Mom and will carry on all you've taught and given us.
