Doris Elaine Cox

March 23, 1949 — May 11, 2025

Macon

Doris Cox, 76, of Macon, GA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family Sunday evening, May 11th, 2025.  Doris Elaine Lindsey-Cox was born in Macon, GA, on March 23rd, 1949, to Hansel and Ruby Lindsey.

The youngest of six siblings with 2 brothers and 3 sisters, Doris loved riding horses and spending time at church.  She married USAF Staff Sergeant Johnny V. Cox on July 25th, 1970 at her family home in Macon, Georgia.  They soon moved to Neapolis, Ohio upon Johnny’s exit from active-duty service in November 1970 making a transition to the Ohio Air National Guard in Toledo, Ohio.  With two young children soon in tow, they made the decision for her to remain as a stay-at-home Mom until the children were of school age.  During these years, she greatly enjoyed maintaining a beautiful home for her family and sharing her creative hobbies with her children painting ceramics, sewing, crocheting, baking, reading and listening to music.

In 1979, Johnny and Doris transitioned the family back to Georgia for career opportunities at Robins AFB.  Doris then studied Business Administration and Data Processing at Crandall Business College, starting her professional career in 1985 at Industrial Welding and Tool Supply (IWTS) working her way up to Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Carroll A. Walker, where she would stay professionally for 25 years.  In 2005, Johnny and Doris officially retired and have been enjoying their time together watching their family grow, volunteering at Mabel White Baptist Church and traveling as time would allow.

Doris became a born-again believer in Jesus Christ at the age of 8 and served the Lord fervently all throughout her life.  She worshiped as a member of First Baptist Church of Waterville, Ohio under Reverend Stanley Clark, and in Georgia at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church under Dr. Ricky Brantley and Mabel White Baptist Church under Dr. Lee Sheppard.  She was never afraid to say a prayer for someone in need, sing a hymn to praise His name or share her testimony to anyone who wanted to hear it.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Cox; sister, Diane (John) Hayes; children, Richard (Susan) Cox of Marietta, GA, Leslie (Danny) Purvis of Bonaire, GA; grandchildren, Chad Cox, Derek (Kelly) Cox, Dylan Cox, Casey (Caitlin) Harrison, Ally Harrison, Aaron (Taylor) Evans, Jonathan (Callie) Evans, Ruby Purvis, Tybee Purvis, Oliver Purvis, Jude Purvis and great grandchildren, Emma Evans, Drew Harrison, Carter Harrison, and Amelia Cox-Vivanco.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; siblings, Kay Land, Hansel Lindsey, Gay Nell Hayes, Jerry Lindsey; and grandson, Andrew Harrison.
