Perry-Donald R. Whitehead, 80, of Perry, Georgia, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:00AM at the High Street Unitarian-Universalist Church in Macon, where he was a founding member. The Reverend Rhett Baird and Monsignor John Cuddy will officiate. Burial will be private. A native of Pelham, Georgia, Mr. Whitehead had resided in Perry for the past 30 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Lanier High School for Boys in Macon. A lifelong Democrat, he was active in the Houston County Democratic Committee. He was retired after 38 years from Robins Air Force Base Logistics Command. Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Whitehead and Mary Ella (Bragg) Whitehead; three brothers, Robert F. Whitehead, Jr., James C. Whitehead, and Dozier R. Whitehead, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth O'Neal. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Mercer Whitehead, a brother, Kenneth C. Whitehead (Peggy) of Juliette, a sister Carolyn Bennett (Harlie) of Pensacola Beach, FL and seven children, Kathy Bird (Bob), of Kathleen, Donald R. Whitehead, Jr. (Teri) and Russell K. Whitehead (Deb) of Griffin, Stephen R. Whitehead (Renee) of Wichita, KS, K. Neal Whitehead, Robert M. Whitehead (Julie) and Pamela Martin, all of Perry, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory on Cherry Street has charge of arrangements.
