Donald M. "Bunkie" Johnson

Macon- Donald M. "Bunkie" Johnson died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:00AM at Christ Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Great Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Christ Church, 538 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201. Born in Bunkie, Louisiana, Mr. Johnson attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Before moving to Macon in 1956, he and his wife, Elizabeth, lived in Detroit, Philadelphia, and Phoenix. Mr. Johnson worked for the Insurance Company of North America in Macon until he retired in 1961. He was actively involved in the community, including work on the Beautification Commission and the American Red Cross and was an active member of Christ Church. Bunkie was a delightful husband, father and grandfather who had a wonderfully dry sense of humor. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his daughter, Debbie (John); his sons, Eric (Ric), Frederick and Robby (Danielle); his granddaughters, Elizabeth (Stephen) and Kate and great-grandsons, Nicholas and Will.
