Dolores “Dee” McGinty Barnes, 96, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Daughter of the late Truman McGinty and Essie R. Saunders McGinty, Dee was born in Akron, Ohio on March 22, 1928. Soon thereafter her family moved to Helena, Georgia and later to McRae, Georgia where she grew up. She received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Georgia. Dee was a housewife and mother while her children were young and later went to work at various jobs including Mulberry Street United Methodist Church as Financial Secretary.
Dee loved people and had many friends. Anytime one of them would suggest a game of cards, a lunch date, or a shopping trip she was ready to go! She was often teased that her middle name was “Go”. Dee was an avid bridge player and loved to read. She enjoyed playing various card games, traveling and camping with family and friends. She liked to stay fit and loved swimming, riding bikes and walking. Dee loved cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs and rarely missed watching or listening to their football games.
Dee was an active member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church where she attended the Joy Sunday School Class and was a member of Paula Motes Circle. Even when she could no longer attend the church services, she would listen to the service every Sunday on her radio.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, her husband of 74 years, Curtis S Barnes; her sister, Betty Brown; and brothers, Carswell McGinty and Jack McGinty.
Dee will be lovingly remembered by her son, Mike Barnes (Billie), of Adel, Georgia; daughters, Kathy Lowe (Byron), of Brunswick, Georgia, and Janet Poland (Kenny), of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren: Julie Merwin (Scott), Nathan Barnes (April), Ashley Burns (Matt), Ryan Williams (Sally), Shane Poland (Beka), and Corey Lowe (Christine); and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Ga 31204; Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 149, Macon, GA 31202; or to Atrium Health Navicent Hospice Pine Pointe, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
