Diane L. Newton, 84 of Macon, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
She was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, and spent her early years there. As a teenager, she moved to Coronado, California, and subsequently to Annapolis, Maryland when her father passed away. She received a degree in psychology from St. Mary’s College in 1959, and located to Newport, Rhode Island where she met her husband of 59 years, Andrew F. Newton.
Throughout the years she performed many volunteer activities, including Meals on Wheels, Cub Scout leader, and organizing church luncheons. She also served on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over 40 years, and was an Honorary member of the Barrington Hall Garden club.
Her main love was her role as a homemaker and mother to her two sons, Mark Newton (Lisa) of Fairfield, Connecticut, and Eric Newton (Christa), of Franklin, Tennessee. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Maya, Matthew, Scottie, and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Richard Lawrence, and her brother, Kent Lawrence.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, with the Reverends Mark and Fran Magoni officiating. The family will greet friends for a reception following the service.
