Macon

Mr. Dewaine A. Knight, 87, of Macon, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024.  Graveside funeral services will be at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens, Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11:00AM with the Reverend Bill Linder officiating.

Dewaine was born in Cecil, Georgia, to the late Randall and Sarah Knight.  His family moved from the family farm in Cook County to Macon in the 1940’s when Dewaine was just a child.  Dewaine graduated from Lanier High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly thereafter.  After completing basic training, he returned to Macon to marry his sweetheart, Joe Ann Spear.  Dewaine and Joe Ann lived in Washington state and Alaska during his service, later returning to Georgia. Dewaine worked in sales at different times for Macon Beauty Supply, American Tobacco, and the Coca-Cola Company.  He also worked for the Sheriff’s Department later in life.

Dewaine had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Over the years he won AKC Championships with several of his cherished birddogs. Dewaine was an avid fan of any sports his grandsons and great-grandsons were playing. He was a man of faith and a long-time member of Eastside Baptist Church and Northridge Baptist Church. Dewaine will be missed by all those who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff of Baptist Village for the excellent care and loving kindness shown to Dewaine over the last year.

In addition to his parents, Dewaine is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joe Ann Knight; son, David M. Knight; and siblings George Knight, Kenneth Knight, and Dorothy Spinks.

Dewaine is survived by his son, Todd Mitchel Knight of Macon; grandsons, David “Luke” Knight (Lindsay) of Birmingham, Alabama and Andrew M. Knight (Meghan) of Macon, Georgia; granddaughters, Jessie Kay Lowe of Macon and Anne Jane Strange of Macon; great-grandchildren, Patton Knight, Thomas Knight, Gabe Lowe, Ian Lowe, Jensen Daniels, Hawkins Hathaway and Wilson Strange; nieces, Gina Maxwell of Brunswick, Georgia, and Karen Coleman of Macon; and nephew, Allen Yates of Macon.
