Dennis “Bear” Whitehead

Dennis “Bear” Whitehead, 69, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be private Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Son of the late Donald Wood “D.W.” Whitehead and Phyllis Marie Browning Whitehead, Dennis was born in Macon on April 28, 1954. He devoted much of his professional life to the transportation industry. He was a former driver for YKK and later worked as a driver operations manager at Ignition Marketing Company.

Beyond his professional life, Dennis's passion for mentoring youths shone brightly as he dedicated many years coaching little league at Bloomfield Recreation Center.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Betty Whitehead of Macon; children: Denise Whitehead, of Dalton, Georgia, Jeff Whitehead (Kasey Thomas), of Macon, Steven Denton (Tonya), of Hiawassee, Georgia, and Katina Denton, of Zebulon, Georgia; grandchildren: Zachary Ward, Hannah Hunter, Justin Whitehead, Jordan Denton, Steven Denton, Salena Williams, and Josh Heflin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Faye Reid; and his faithful canine companion, BoJack.
