David E. Reed died May 25, 2018 in Macon, Georgia. He had been a resident at Carlyle Place in Macon since 2009. David was born on March 29, 1935 in Batavia, New York to Harley E. and Marion I. Reed. David was the older of two children. His sister, Elinor, preceded him in death.
David graduated from Batavia High School in 1953, then from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957. He entered military service late in 1957 as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He served for a total of 27 years. David’s Air Force awards and decorations included the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross (twice), a Bronze Star and twelve Air Medals. After retiring from the USAF, David became a financial advisor with First Command Financial Services, where he was both an agent and district agent in Georgia and South Carolina. He especially enjoyed helping people with their financial planning.
David was married to Nancy Kemper. Their four children are Nancy, John, James and David Jr. A second marriage was to Florence (Sunny) Fail. His stepchildren from that marriage are Hunter Jr., Valerie and Cindi. After the death of his second wife, David was married a third time to Janith Peak. Jan’s family includes her three sons, Jim, David and John. David delighted in the special relationships he had with each member of these families.
David was a Life Member of Optimist International, Gideon’s and a Stephen Leader. Vineville United Methodist Church was his place of worship.
David is survived by his third wife, Janith Peak of Macon; his 4 children, Nancy (Kim), John (Pam), Jim (Lynette) and David (Broocke); his step-children, Hunter Slaton (Donna), Valerie Slaton Rogers (Clark), Cindi Slaton Farmer (Randy); his grandchildren, Taylor Haley, Bailie Reed, Clark Rogers Jr., Ryan Rogers, Austin Rogers, Samantha Slaton, Hunter Slaton, Lauryn Farmer, Carlie Farmer; and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Jan’s children, Jim Peak (Fran), David Peak (Pam) and John Peak (Julie) and their families.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be announced by the family. He will be interred at the Georgia Veterans Cemetery.
