David Kerlin Mitchell, of Macon, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016, surrounded by many of his friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 4:00 PM, at Forest Hills United Methodist Church. Dr. Baxter Hurley and the Reverend Diane Sweckerd will officiate. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Forest Hills UMC, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210. David was born September 14, 1936, in Macon, GA. He graduated from the Warnell School of Forestry at the University of GA in 1965 where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. David was a lifelong Bulldog and passionate supporter of UGA football, holding season tickets for over 40 years. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters and a member of the GA Forestry Association. David also served as the GA State Chairman of the American Tree Farm System and was a longtime member of the Macon Touchdown Club. He loved spending his time with his family and grandchildren as well as traveling as much as possible. Survivors: Wife, Sharon Mitchell; Step daughter, Allison (Chris) Hefner; Step son, Clint (Christa) Ward; 5 grandchildren and 3 nephews. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
