David Roger Dunning, 79, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2023, at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola. The family will greet friends following the service at their residence.
Son of the late Lyndall Curtis Dunning and Virginia King Dunning, David was born on December 17, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia. David’s passion for aerospace began at a young age and continued to grow throughout his life. He had a long career in the aviation industry, working in fourteen states. He earned his Aerospace degree from St. Louis University and went on to obtain two master’s degrees in business and computer science from Webster University. He worked on a variety of projects, including Boeing planes, helicopters, the space shuttle, and the space station.
In addition to his professional achievements, David was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Camp of the Unknown Soldier #2218 Sons of Confederate Veterans. David also wrote a science fiction book entitled “Rockhounds.”
David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Dunning of Macon; son, Alex Dunning (Awilda); daughter, Erin Mobbs (Dustin), of Macon; seven grandchildren: Joseph Jimenez (Ashley), Ryan Delgado, Abigail and Adam Dunning, Destiny, Zackary, and Christopher Mobbs, all of Macon; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Amster; brother, Robert Dunning, of Richmond, Virginia; sister, Kay Dunning, of Richmond, Virginia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Finley (Ken), of Paris, Texas; nieces and nephews, Caitlin Tanner (Ronnie) and Brian Finley, both of Paris, Texas; and great niece, Astana Finley, of Paris, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp of the Unknown Soldier #2218 Sons of Confederate Veterans, 3639 McKenzie Drive, Macon, Georgia 31204, or to the Cannonball House, 856 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201.
