Daniel D. Harris

Daniel D. Harris, Jr., 84, of Bolingbroke died February 2, 2014 at his home. A retired Lt. Col., he was the son of the late Daniel D. Harris, Sr., and Romalda Muldowney Harris of Macon. He attended St. Joseph's School, Lanier High School, Mercer University, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Kokusai Kuristokyo University ( Tokyo) and the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College. His Army career included combat Infantry tours in Korea (1953) and Vietnam ( 1968-69); Operations Officer & Director of Instruction, Army Language School/ Defense Language Institute (1961-64); Military Attaché, U.S. Embassy, Japan (1957-60, 1965-67); and the service with the Army General Staff, the Pentagon (1969-72). After retirement from the Service, he resided in Glanmire, Co. Cork, Ireland (1972-98). His brother Charles preceded him in death. He is survived by nephews, Michael D. Harris (Michele) of Athens, Ga., Anthony B. Harris ( Heather) of Macon, Ga., Niece, Carol Levi, of Norfolk, Va., great-nephews, Alexander Harris ( Lindsey) stationed in Vilseck, Germany, and Charles Harris, of Athens, Ga., great-nieces, Elizabeth Harris of Macon, Ga. and Ellery Grace Harris of Athens, Ga., great-nephew, Maximilian Harris, of Macon, Ga. and sister-in-law Irmtraut Harris of Macon, Ga. A private funeral service will be held at Andersonville Cemetery.
