Gray- D C Palmer, 87, of 325 Creekside Drive, died Monday, December 5, 2011. Services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00AM at Northridge Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Bruner and the Reverend Klay Aspinwall officiating. Burial will be private at Georgia Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. Mr. Palmer was the son of the late Jim and Georgia Palmer. He was predeceased by his son, Nick Palmer, and by four brothers and two sisters. A decorated veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Palmer served in the Germany Campaigns in the European Theatre during World War II. Included among his decorations and citations are the E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Battle Stars, American Theatre Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Palmer was a member of Northridge Baptist Church. He also served as a Sunday School teacher and a deacon at Highland Hills Baptist Church and Eastside Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Volume Tire Company. Mr. Palmer was a member of the Grand Jurors Association, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans and was active in the Republican Party. Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Nancy Palmer of Gray; sons, Craig Palmer (Laura) and Calvin Palmer (Priscilla), both of Macon; daughter, Veronica Allegood of Gray; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Rod Palmer (Barbara) of Broxton, Georgia.
