Cynthia Davis Greene

Cynthia Davis Greene, 89, passed away on September 21, 2026, at her residence in Roswell, Georgia. A Celebration of Life will be held at Vineville United Methodist Church on October 17, 2026, at 11:00AM, with visitation to follow.

Born on July 21, 1937, in Wrightsville, Georgia, Cynthia was the youngest of ten children. The Davis family household was already in full swing when she arrived, a fact which likely contributed to her lifelong love of company. She adored her five brothers and four sisters and loved growing up in a small town where everybody around was considered family, whether or not they were blood kin.

The scarcity of activities available in Wrightsville meant that church was the social hub in town. If there was a prayer meeting or revival going on at any one of the churches, Cynthia and her siblings would be there! The preachers, Sunday School teachers, and congregants there helped instill in her a deep love for the Lord, and she took to heart Jesus’ directive to love thy neighbor. Her enthusiasm for church never wavered as long as she lived.

After graduating from Berry College, Cynthia began her career as a high school English teacher. Several years later, her strong sense of adventure led her to accept a blind date to an Atlanta Falcons game where Cynthia met an affable banker named Robert W. “Bob” Greene. They married in 1968 and made their home in Macon. She was a devoted and supportive wife to Bob for 50 years until his passing in 2019. They resided together in Macon, Dalton, and eventually moved to Roswell to be close to family.

Cynthia was an exceptional mother to her three children. She was affectionate, encouraging, fun-loving, and conscience-provoking when necessary. Bad grammar was never tolerated. Church attendance was non-negotiable. Piano lessons were attempted, and while the music lessons didn’t stick so well, the service and kindness and commitment and creativity and thoughtfulness and generosity Cynthia modeled did. “Remember who you are” was her most effective admonishment, as the kids recognized the very high standard set by their remarkable parents.

Cynthia loved people. Having visitors stop by or stay over truly delighted her. Macon’s convenient central location along I-75 provided many opportunities for her to host folks, and she relished every opportunity to play hostess. She was always eager to make guests feel welcome and comfortable.

Her eight grandchildren were the joy of “Cynky’s” life. She was immensely proud of them and happily attended their performances, sporting events, and ceremonies. She lavished her love on them, playing backyard wiffle ball, serving up overly generous helpings of ice cream, and taking them out and about to the pizza arcade or dollar store. She was expert at showing them a good time.

When a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis threatened to cramp her style, she refused to let it. Cynthia took the news in stride, as was always her way. For more than two decades after, she continued going, doing, and helping selflessly for as long as she possibly could. Her uncooperative body didn’t preclude her desire to serve others. When she became more stationary in her later years, she continued offering assistance to whomever might need advice or encouragement.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents J. Thomas and Bessie Brown Davis; all nine of her siblings; and her son-in-law, Mitt Weissinger. Cynthia is survived by her grateful children, Katherine (Ed) Phillips of Roswell, GA; Rebecca Weissinger of Roswell, GA; Robert (Kate) Greene, Jr, of Athens, GA; grandchildren Alex and Davis (Corbyn) Phillips, Maysie, Wilson, and Evie Weissinger, and William, Lauren, and Caroline Greene, as well as former students of Decatur High School, various Bibb County schools, Stratford Academy, and Northwest Whitfield High School, and countless friends that she held dear.
