CW4 (Ret.) Henry "Hank" Hunt, 71, of Gray, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Sunshine Methodist Church, off Hwy 11, in Round Oak, Georgia. Reverend and long time friend, Wesley Patton will be officiating. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Family will greet friends for a time of visitation on Friday evening, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel. Also, the family is planning a larger tribute to be announced at a later time.
Henry was born on March 10, 1954, in Macon, Georgia, to Carver and Martha Lott Hunt. Henry was a man of many hats - Green Beret, Gunship Pilot, SWAT officer in Macon in the 1970s and later at Georgia Tech in the 2000s, Firefighter, Paramedic, Life Flight Helicopter Pilot, and Fire Suppression Helicopter Pilot for Georgia Forestry. While in the military he received many awards and commendations, most notable being the Bronze Star, and Air Medal with Valor for service during Desert Storm. He is one of the few people to obtain master parachutist and master army aviator.
He had a deep love for history. He could tell you everything he knows about the different wars that were fought and would tell the story as if he were there. Henry was a born storyteller, and was often referred to as "Mr. CAV". His next big love would be his bull terriers. Henry started his rescue journey with "Tater", which is the southern version of "Spud", next came Jeep, Sassy, Wooly, and now Savannah Lynn and Eddie. They were and are considered his children. Henry often said that if he ever won the lottery, he would rescue them all.
Henry is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 29 years, Angie Russell Hunt; Son, Jesse Henry Hunt; Sister, Lynn Hunt Palmer; Nephews and Nieces, Troy Edwards; Richard (Kerri), Matthew and Jonathan Palmer; Chris (Susanne), Cole, Chase and Leslie Palmer; Melissa (John) and John Paul Harris; and a huge circle of friends and fellow service members worldwide.
