Curtis S. Barnes, 95, of Macon, Georgia, died Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Piedmont Macon Medical Center.
Son of late H.B. Barnes, Sr. and Emma Curtis Barnes, Curtis was born June 21, 1928, in McRae, Georgia. He served with distinction as the Assistant Chief of Fire Control at the Georgia Forestry Commission, a role through which he exemplified commitment and leadership. His love of nature extended into his personal life as a master gardener and an enthusiast in hunting, fishing, and camping. A lifelong UGA Bulldogs fan, Curtis also found joy as an avid reader, enriching his mind and soul alike.
Above all, Curtis was a family man, deeply cherishing moments spent with his beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His steadfast faith was demonstrated through active participation at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where he was honored with the Quiet Disciple Award and devoted his time to the administrative board.
In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his sisters, Emogene Daniel and Nancy McDonald; and brothers, H.B Barnes, Jr., Don Barnes and Jack Barnes.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 74 years, Dolores Barnes, of Macon; son, Michael C. Barnes (Billie), of Adel, Georgia; daughters, Katherine Lowe (Byron), of Brunswick, Georgia, and Janet Poland (Kenny), of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren: Julie Merwin (Scott), Nathan Barnes (April), Ashley Burns (Matt), Ryan Williams (Sally), Shane Poland (Beka), and Corey Lowe (Christine); and twelve great grandchildren.
