Craig Carmichael Elder

After a long and valiant fight against vascular dementia, with her family at her side, Nell Craig Carmichael Elder went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2010. Born in Bennettsville, South Carolina to Frank Covington Carmichael and Nell Wilson Carmichael, she graduated from Bennettsville High School. She studied music at Salem College for two years, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor in Science in Commerce degree. At Carolina she served as President of her sorority, Kappa Delta, and was elected as a Beauty Queen to the May Court.

Her passion was her family. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was loving, caring and giving to all who knew her.

She loved her church, First Presbyterian Church, and served as president of the Women of the Church, was a Circle leader and taught Bible Studies.

She was a member of the Jackson Springs Garden Club and the Morning Music Club of Macon, where she served on the Executive Board.

She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, William H. (Bill) Elder, Jr, and infant son, William Frank Elder.

She leaves her devoted children: William H. (Bill) Elder III, and Joan Elder Woodford (John) both of Macon. Her grandchildren are Chris Bailey of Dothan, Al, Meredith Taylor (Jack) of Milledgeville and Ron Woodford (Melissa) of Macon. Great-grandchildren are David Bailey, Jay Taylor, Nell Taylor, Walker Woodford and Will Woodford.

The family will greet friends at Hart's at the Cupola from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, December 20, 2010. Burial will be private. A Homecoming Celebration will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Jim Shipley officiating. The family will be at 330 Dickens Drive S, Macon, Georgia.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Carlyle Place, Bolingreen Health and Rehab and Hospice Care Options for their loving care. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Care Options, 1125 Walnut Street, Macon, Ga 31201 or the charity of your choice.
