Clinton Harold “Skip” Johnson, 80, of Macon, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola with the Reverend Stephen N. Johnson officiating.
Born June 9, 1945, in Macon, Georgia, Skip was a son of the late Ruth Odom and J.C. Johnson. Mr. Johnson honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of First Lieutenant. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia - Go Dawgs! Skip joined his father’s business and built a career at Providence Bond Company. Skip loved his family and never missed a time to share with them.
As a child, he was a member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church. In adulthood, he attended First Presbyterian Church and North Macon Presbyterian Church. Remaining active, he spent time golfing, traveling, and going to the gym. Skip could often be found having lunch with his best friend, Johnny Ramsey. He also enjoyed a good debate and never missed an opportunity to join one.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, J. C. and Ruth Johnson. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Gayle Johnson; their daughter, Jennifer Johnson Slade (Steve) of Milledgeville; son, Glenn Clinton Johnson of Macon; and grandchildren: Jackson Slade (Sarah) of Savannah and Sara Grayson “Gracie” Slade of Greensboro. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Rev. Stephen N. Johnson (Connie) of Chelsea, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
