Ms. Ortiz-Robledo was predeceased by her father, Agustin Ortiz-Perez of Vieques, PR and is survived by daughter, Marisol Ortiz of Macon, GA; mother, Lelis Marina Robledo-Ramos of San Juan, Puerto Rico; siblings, Brunilda Ortiz-Robledo (San Juan, PR), Agustin Ortiz-Robledo and wife, Kathy (Stafford, VA), Lelis M. Sheets-Ortiz and husband, Robert (Mountaintop, PA), Eva L. Husted-Ortiz and husband, Jeff (Colorado Springs, CO), Christine Ismaeil-Ortiz and husband Eiyad (Pittsburgh, PA), Daniel Ortiz-Robledo and wife, Rosemary (Oberlin, OH), and many nieces and nephews. Cindie has always had a profound love of music and a desire to share that love with those around her. Cindie took piano lessons at an early age from a teacher at the Christian Day School, in San Juan, PR. She started playing trumpet at the age of 12, in Puerto Rico - perhaps because her sister, Eva was playing and she had easy access to a horn. She and her sister often played in church. Cindie participated in the Savannah Youth Orchestra in high school, and was selected to attend the prestigious Governor's Honors Program for Music. In college, Cindie majored in Music and was a charter member of Georgia Southern University's first marching band. She was a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity and was a "little sister" to the music Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. Cindie was co-principal trumpet in the Georgia Southern College Symphony of Statesboro. She moved to Baumholder, Germany with her family in 1977, where she played in the band and participated in gymnastics and cross country. In 1980, her family moved to Ft Stewart, GA allowing her to graduate from the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville in 1982. Cindie deeply impacted the lives of many students over her long teaching career, inspiring many young students to find themselves as musicians and artists. Cindie taught Beginning Band for just under 15 years at Miller Middle School, as well as a short time at Central Junior High School in Springfield. She loved marching band and was the Color Guard Flag instructor for the Macon Central High School Band for many years. Although her heart belonged to beginning young students on instruments, she also found great pleasure in teaching elementary music and Spanish at St. Peter Claver School and St. Joseph's School. Her final years were spent teaching elementary school music in the Henry County school system at Smith Barnes Elementary, Fairview Elementary, and Austin Road Elementary. Cindie was also involved in the local and national music community. She participated in Bugles Across America for many years, playing "Taps" at military funerals throughout the area to provide a live bugler due to the shortage of military buglers. She was briefly involved in the community orchestra, playing in the Minot Symphony Orchestra and the Ambassador Brass in North Dakota, and the Tara Winds in Jonesboro, Georgia. Cindie was also deeply involved in the administrative side of the Mercer University Youth Choirs (formerly Mercer University Children's Choir) from its charter year in 2005. She helped guide the annual choir tours to places such as Florida; Washington, DC; New York; Chicago; and Texas. Cindie also spent a number of years assisting the direction of the music for the Spanish masses at St. Peter Claver School. Further, Cindie played every week in a brass ensemble at Vineville Baptist Church and played annually at Christmas and Easter services at St. Joseph's Church. Cindie was a Girl Scout for many years and became a Volunteer leader as an adult, receiving the Outstanding Volunteer award from North West North Dakota Girl Scout Council. She loved traveling. Going on a road trip with Cindie was always an adventure. Her talents, compassion, and vivacious energy will be dearly missed.
