Christine Whitmire

Christine Whitmire, 75, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022, at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola, with the Reverend Gary Dunagan officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Interment will be private at Riverside Cemetery.

Ms. Whitmire was born in Buffalo, NY on March 4, 1947, to the late Edward Bednarek and Marie Bednarek née Siejakowski. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster, New York. Having lived in both Buffalo, NY and Pittsburgh, PA she moved to Macon, GA where she worked for Mayor Lee Robinson in the early 1990’s and was the former manager of the Downtown Council of the Macon Chamber of Commerce. She lived a life of devotion to family and community and shared her sense of humor and style with all she encountered.

Ms. Whitmire is survived by her husband of 21 years, John Whitmire, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; son, Gregory Best and wife Larissa, of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Janelle Best and partner Martin Bonventre, of Brooklyn, NY; granddaughter, Tatiana Best; brother, David E. Bednarek and wife Lori Gaul, of Leland, NC; nephew, Joey Bednarek, of Wheaton, IL; and niece, Jennifer Melzer and husband Scott, of South Elgin, IL.
