Macon- Charlie Watson Brown, Sr., 94 passed away on Friday, July 08, 2011 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC after an extended illness. Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery Monday July 11, 2011 at 1:00PM. The Reverend Mark Magoni will officiate. The family will greet friends on Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 3:00PM until 5:00PM, at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. He was born December 27, 1916 in Live Oak, Florida to the late Joseph and Georgia Duckworth Brown. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Annie Jenkins Brown, and a sister, Louise Mangiovi of Middleburg, Florida. He owned several coin machine and vending businesses in Columbia and Charleston SC, and Macon, GA during his career. Over the years he was active in several associations in SC and GA dealing with the vending industry. He was active in his son's business for several years also. He moved to Hendersonville to retire eight years ago with his wife. He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He joined the Acacia Lodge #94 A.F. & A.M. in Columbia, SC in 1950. He was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by a daughter, Charleen Williams of Dalton, GA; son, Charlie Watson Brown, Jr. and his wife Judy of Saluda, NC; a sister, Vickie Weigel of Middleburg, FL; loving family members, Carl and Jackie Poppell of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Joseph Brown and his wife Lisa of Taylors, SC, Charlie Brown, III of Koloa, HI, Cherie Jeffries and her husband Patrick of Tallahassee, FL, Crystal Tollett of Dalton, GA, Samantha Helms and her husband Todd of West Columbia, SC, and Ricky Caulder and his wife Rachael of Camden, SC; fifteen grandchildren, Sarah and Trenton Jeffries; Chad, Jacob, and Charlotte Brown; Joshua, Matthew, Paige Tollett and Ryann McCormick; Caroline and Virginia Ray Helms; Reese, Noah, Travis, and Owen Caulder. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 South Allen Road Flat Rock, NC 28731.
