Charles "Bud" Ridley White

Charles Ridley "Bud" White, MD, 89 passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 after a lengthy illness. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11:00AM at Mulberry United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 80 years. Burial will be private in Rose Hill Cemetery. Dr. Rick Lanford, Rev. Jeff Cook and Rev. Josh White will officiate. The family will greet friends following the church service in the sanctuary. Dr. White was born in Macon, Georgia on June 18, 1928, the son of the late Paul C. White and Martha Ridley White, and brother Paul White. He was married to Ruth D. White for 64 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Charles R. White, Jr., Michael W. White, (dog "Peanut"), Christopher A. White (Cindy) from Woodbine, Georgia, Paul Jeffrey White (Katherine) of Forsyth, Georgia; grandsons, Josh White (Rebekah) of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Ryan White; granddaughters, Courtney White, Christi Roberson (Robert) of Kingsland, Georgia, Caroline White of Woodbine, Georgia, Ridley White of Forsyth, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Carson, McKenzie, and Maren Roberson, and Luke White of St. Simons Island, Georgia. Dr. White remained close to his cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dr. White was a graduate of Alexander II Elementary, Lanier Highschool for boys, Mercer University and he received his Medical Degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1956. He served in the Army as a Capt. for two years before completing his surgery residency at Macon Hospital. He joined his Uncle, Charles Ridley, Jr. in the practice of surgery at the Coliseum Hospital. He was a member of the Bibb County Medical Society, Southern Medical Association, a Fellow of the College of Abdominal Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, opening the first Occupational Medicine Clinic in Macon. He was instrumental in starting the first "Reach to Recovery" program for Mastectomy patients. Dr. White joined Mulberry United Methodist Church at the age of nine. After returning to Macon to start his practice, he resumed his membership along with his family. He and Ruth were members of the Joy Class. Dr. White was President and coach of the Ocmulgee Little League and Physician for the Mark Smith Highschool Basketball and Football teams. He enjoyed family vacations every summer traveling with friends, hunting, fishing with family, and his workshop. Dr. White was a Master Gardener, growing and sharing plants from his greenhouse and yard.
