MACON, Charles Buford Mathis, Jr. age 63 passed away suddenly at his home on August 27, 2012. He was born in Macon on June 6, 1949 and graduated from Lanier High School. He attended Georgia Southern University and was employed for 38 years at Imery's Kaolin in Dry Branch as a mechanic and served as the union representative. Charles was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and served in the Georgia Army National Guard. During retirement, he could often be found at the golf course with friends, fishing from his dock, or reading his favorite sports magazines. Being an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, he was most relaxed with a remote in hand tuned to his favorite sporting events. He is survived by his sister, MaryAnne Mathis West, brother-in-law, Dwight West, and niece, Michelle West. Condolences can be sent to 436 Bouchelle Drive Unit 301 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32169. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Buford Mathis, Sr. and Kathleen Sires Mathis Wood. Donations in his memory can be made to the American Heart Association. Hart's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
