Charles Hegedus

April 18, 1943 — April 11, 2025

Lizella

Charles Conway Hegedus, 81, of Lizella, GA, a long-term resident of Cartersville, GA, died April 11, 2025. He was a beloved father, friend, and passionate outdoorsman. He will be remembered for his warm heart, quiet strength, and deep love for the simple pleasures in life. He was a devout Christian, reading in his bible daily.

He was born in Atlanta, GA, in 1943 to Louis J. Hegedus and Lois Dorsey.

Chuck, as he was fondly called, found his greatest joy in the stillness of nature, spending countless hours fishing and appreciating the peace it brought him. He had a sharp eye and deep appreciation for history, which he expressed through his passion for buying and selling antique tools. His collection reflected not just rare finds, but also his deep respect for craftsmanship and tradition. Chuck also had a strong interest in firearms, valuing both their history and mechanics. He was a devoted NASCAR fan, never missing a race and always cheering on his favorite drivers with enthusiasm. The thrill of the sport and the community around it brought him great joy over the years.

Those who knew him will remember his stories, his steady presence, and the way he could light up a room with his dry wit and gentle smile. He was someone you could count on — a man of quiet principles and steadfast loyalty.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Louis T. Hegedus.

He is survived by his daughters, Dana Hegedus Shields of Lizella, GA, and Anna Hegedus Watson of Denver, PA; his grandchildren, Crystal Ragan (Josh) of Macon, GA; Ryan Shields (Kate) of Jacksonville, FL; Kyle Shields (Pebbles) of Norfolk, VA; Charles Watson of Denver, PA; and Jesse Watson of Denver, PA; and great-grandchildren, Millie and Myles Ragan of Macon, GA. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Hegedus of Wellborn, FL.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
