Charles Edward Butler

Charles Edward Butler, 89, died October 16, 2017. He was born in Memphis TN on March 8, 1928 and grew up in Knoxville. After high school he served in the Marines. Following his time in the service, he attended University of Tennessee receiving his Bachelor's Degree. He went to work as an auditor for Kraft Foods, covering the United States and Canada. He later became Director of Information Services at Fieldcrest Mills in Eden, NC, E. R. Carpenter in Richmond VA, and Bibb Company in Macon until his retirement. He was a faithful member of First Christian Church, serving as Financial Secretary, Elder, choir member and on the Board. He served on various committees at the Regional level of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Georgia. He served on Boards of Vineville Christian Towers in Macon, Christian College of Georgia in Athens. And Campbell-Stone in Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his father, Hiram Butler, and mother, Charlie Newman Butler, brothers Walter and Lawrence, sisters Elnora Lassing, Margaret Hicks and Mary Lois Rose. He is survived by his wife, Joy Wilson Butler, and step-children: Rev. Jamie Brame (Renae), Dr. Joel Brame (Lesa), Carla Brame and Todd Brame; nephews Stanley Hickey, Robert Butler, and nieces Ann Watson, Jo Butler, Marie Butler, Cathy Johnson and Elizabeth Brickhouse. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church, 2306 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or Christmount Christian Assembly, 222 Fern Way, Black Mountain, N.C. 28711 A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Christian Church on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11:00 am, with visitation following the service in the church parlor. Simply Hart's has charge of arrangements.
