Mr. Charles “Freddie” Barnes, Jr., 85, of Eatonton, passed away Monday, Februa r y 3, 2020. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Hart’s Jones County Chapel at 2:00PM , with Greg Crawford officiating . The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Glen H aven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Barnes retired from the Robins Air Force Base in 1981 with the G.E.E.I.A. Squadron. Mr. Barnes also helped to lay the cable during the early days of Cape Canaveral. Afterwards, he worked with his nephew, Greg C rawford, at The Master’s Touch jewelry store for 25 years. In 1995, Mr. Barnes moved to Lake Sinclair . He loved boating and working in the yard, where he left many jobs unfinished , so he could enjoy lake life with his friends and family.
Mr. Barnes is pr eceded in death by his parents , Charles Fred Barnes, Sr. and Clara Mae McCant Barnes; and his sisters, Mary S au nders and Marceline Brown. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Barnes, of Eatonton; children, Angel e ne Meriwether (Scott), Chuck Barnes ( Linds e y) , Andrea Williams (Chris), and Tr é Foster (Heidi) ; grandchildren, Jake Meriwether, Anna Meriwether, Allison Barnes, Ethan Barnes, William Barnes, Lindsey Hodnett ( Devin), Taylor Williams (Da y ne Foti), and Garrett Williams; great-grandson, Brooks Hodnett ; nephew, Greg Crawford (Karen) ; and several cousins.
