Catherine "Cathy" Ewing Ivey

Catherine Ewing Ivey, 76, died on Monday, April 7, 2025.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Vineville United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jimmy Asbell, Jr. officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service in the sanctuary. The burial will be private at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Cathy was the daughter of Ruthanna Patton Ewing and Richard Blaine Ewing.  She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Macon.  She was a graduate of Duke University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

An avid reader, Cathy was a dedicated volunteer and advocate for Macon’s public libraries.  She had served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library since 1978 and served 4 terms as President of that organization.  In 1996, she was appointed to a 5-year term as a Trustee for the Middle Georgia Regional Library System; she served as Chairman of that Board for two years.  She also was a member of the Macon Literacy Action Plan Board of Directors.

Cathy was a member of the Junior League of Macon where she chaired many committees during her 18 years with the organization.  She was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church and a member of Allen Sanders Fellowship Class.  At Vineville United Methodist Church she was a library volunteer for 35 years and chaired the Library Committee from 1994 to 2015.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Ty Ivey of Macon; her sister, Ellen Ewing Gutermuth (Bill) of Houston, Texas; three nieces, Catherine G. Muth (Keith) of Richmond, Virginia, Alice G. Lodge (J.W.) of Houston, Texas, and Claire Gutermuth, of Boston, Massachusetts; and a cousin, Ruthanne Stabler (Clay) of Ponte Vedra, Florida.
