Son of the late Cassius Miller and Paula Terrell Stanley, Cash was born on Hallows Eve, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas.  He would eventually end up living in Macon-Bibb County, the county that got its name from his great-great-great-great grandfather, William Wyatt Bibb.  Mr. Bibb was also the first governor of Alabama.

Cash’s father was head of textile engineering at Texas Tech in Lubbock. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, his father joined United States Army.  Mrs. Stanley and Cash followed Mr. Stanley from base to base before Mr. Stanley was shipped out to the Battle of the Bulge in General Patton’s Third Army.  After the war, Mr. Stanley worked as a textile engineer at Avondale Mills in Sylacauga, Alabama.

Cash became a member and president of EYC (Episcopal Young Churchman), played Little League ball, and became the youngest Eagle Scout in the nation at just 12 years old.  He attended Philmont Scout Ranch BSA as an Explorer.  In 1958, his father joined Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia.  Cash continued his work at George Washington High School where he graduated 5th in his class of 500 in 1960 and earned The English Award.  He went on to attend William and Mary University, studying pre-med with a Bachelor of Science in biology.  He attended the Medical College of Virginia from 1964-1968, also becoming a member of AOL, and earning his medical doctrine in 1968.  He also spent one year at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) for his general surgery residency.

Cash later joined the United States Air Force, becoming a flight surgeon.  During that time, he also obtained his private pilot’s license.  He was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida where he was also a member of the “Back-up Moon Mission”.  He was then sent to Nha Trang, Vietnam where he received a Bronze Star. Cash then returned to UAB for 3 years for his urology residency.

While in private practice in Macon, Cash was on the volunteer teaching faculty at Mercer Medical School.  He also served in the Free Urology Clinic for Indigent Patients at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Cash was an avid photographer and reader.  He was known and loved for his humorous Christmas cards he sent out each year that brought smiles to everyone that received one.

Cash is survived by his brothers, Terrell Stanley (Joy) of Macon, and David Meriwether Stanley (Cecilia) of Kennesaw, Georgia; niece, Katie Holder of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews, Ren Stanley of Naples, Florida, and Will Stanley (Caitlin) of Charlotte, North Carolina; great nephews, Cash and Drew Holder of Atlanta, Christopher Miller of Orlando, Florida, and Jonathan (Emmeline) Miller of Atlanta; and his loyal friends at the Grey Goose.
