Carol Harris was born in West Berlin, Germany on March 27, 1961. Growing up in a military family provided her with the opportunity to live in numerous places both here and abroad. A 1979 graduate of Waterloo High School in upstate New York, Carol eventually settled in Norfolk, Virginia where she spent most of her adult life.
Carol enjoyed her life in Virginia. She worked retail at Waterside and Holiday Inn for over 20 years. She also worked as an in-home care giver for elderly patients, something that she found especially rewarding as she offered care and friendship to those in the twilight of their lives.
Carol was known for her love of animals, particularly dogs. She always had at least one dog, and sometimes as many as four, including her faithful companion Freckles, who remained by her side through her final hours.
In her free time, Carol was an avid fan of classic tv, music from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, jigsaw puzzles, and playing the lottery (at which she was quite lucky.) She was a practical joker and loved to laugh. She loved Charles Stanley and would often talk about his teachings. She loved her friends and family, and although several states away, remained close.
Carol was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease approximately 15 years ago. She spent her last few years in Macon under the loving care of her mother. She valiantly fought the ravages of the disease until the end, peacefully passing away in her sleep on May 21, 2026, at 65 years of age.
Carol is preceded in death by her father, Charles M. Harris, and is survived by her mother, Irmtraut Harris, her brothers Michael D. Harris (Michele Harris, of Athens) and Anthony B. Harris (Heather Land, of Macon). She is also survived by nieces Ava Harris (of Macon), Ellery Harris (of Oregon), and nephews, Alex Harris (Lindsey Harris, of Forsyth), Charles Harris (Caroline Harris, of Acworth), and Max Harris (of Macon), as well as great-nieces Olivia and Ivey Harris and newborn great-nephew, Isaiah Harris.
Carol will be missed and remembered fondly. A funeral service will take place at Hart’s Mortuary in Macon on June 13th between the hours of 5-7 PM followed by a celebration of life with friends and family.
