Carlton Eugene Barkley

Carlton Eugene "Gene" Barkley, 77, of Macon, GA passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011. Gene was born in Macon, GA on December 31, 1933 to the late Richard David and Sara Lamb Barkley. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retired after 40 years in the insurance industry and was an avid golfer and sportsman. He attended Lanier High School and Mercer University. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard David "Buddy" Barkley, Jr. formerly of Macon and John Lamb Barkley of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Sybil Hinshaw Barkley of Macon; daughter, Kathy Usery of Fortson, GA; sons and daughter-in-laws, Joe and Debbie Barkley of Dalton, GA, and Michael and Heather Barkley of Macon; brothers and sister-in-law, Don and Laura Barkley of Atlanta, GA, and Jim Barkley of Alpharetta, GA; 8 adoring grandchildren, Dustin and Melanie Ranger of Valparaiso, Indiana, Andrew Barkley of Dalton, GA, Patrick Barkley of Birmingham, Alabama, Ansley and Daniel Usery of Fortson, GA, and Barrett and Bennett Barkley of Macon, GA.

Visitation will be held from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Harts at the Cupola with a memorial service to follow in the Cupola chapel at 2:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, Macon Rescue Mission, or the American Cancer Society.
