Dr. Carlos Gregory Grantham

February 8, 1936 — September 1, 2018

Dr. Carlos Gregory Grantham of Gray, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home September 1, 2018. He was born in Coffee County, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Grantham. After completing undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, he attended the Medical College of Georgia, graduating in 1963. Dr. Grantham interned at Macon Hospital and opened a general practice in Alma, Georgia. He developed a desire to perform anesthesia, and after a residency at Talmadge Hospital, he became an anesthesiologist in Macon, Georgia and practiced for 32 years.

After retiring from anesthesiology, Dr. Grantham pursued his greatest dream of owning and operating a cattle ranch where he produced award-winning and world-renowned Beefmaster cattle. He was also president of the Southeastern Beefmaster Association. He did not entirely abandon his passion for medicine during his ranching days as he donated his time and knowledge to patients at the Macon Volunteer Clinic. After ten years of living his dream as a cattle rancher, Dr. Grantham felt the Lord was calling him to open a general practice in Gray, Georgia, where he lived for 47 years. He treated over 6000 patients with his wife by his side for eight years before illness forced him to retire. He loved his patients and took a personal interest in each one. He was saddened that he could no longer look after their health needs.

Among Dr. Grantham's numerous talents, he was also an accomplished musician. He did not read music, but with his God-given talent he could pick up any musical instrument and play it by ear. He had a beautiful singing voice and sang bass in the choirs of Bradley Baptist Church and Gray United Methodist Church. Dr. Grantham was a dedicated Christian and served with a humble and Godly spirit. He never wavered in his faith and love for his Savior, and this was reflected in his daily life. He lived a full and busy life, and he gave his all to everything he did.

Dr. Grantham is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Vicky Vickers of Douglas, Georgia; children: Dan (Staci) Grantham of Gray, Georgia, Carl Grantham, Hester (Jon) Radford of Macon, Georgia, and Sam (Cherie) Grantham of Macon, Georgia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
