Macon

Bruce Jonas Bishop, a 58-year resident of Macon, Georgia, left to be with His Lord Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Bruce was born in Greenville, SC on August 11, 1930, to Ruth and Jonas Bishop who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Dorothy Suarez and Frances Henderson and his youngest son, Robert Richardson Bishop.

When Bruce was twelve, he met the love of his life, Eleanor Richardson who was only ten. Together they have shared all the rest of their lives! Bruce was an all-star football player at Greenville High School, he was a member of the 1949 S.C. Shrine Bowl football team. He went on to Clemson University; upon graduating with a BS Degree in Textile Chemicals, Bruce received a commission as a Lieutenant in the US Army where he served two years in Aberdeen, Maryland as an Instructor-writer for the USAR Schools Proving Grounds.

Bruce began his working career with FMC Corporation in technical sales; he also served for eight years as assistant product manager, peroxygen chemicals in N.C. and NYC. He moved his family to Macon in 1964 where he became southern sales manager for the thermoplastics division of the Borden Chemical Company. While working as part of the Bibb Company, Bruce formed Star Chemical Company and worked there for thirteen years. In 1979, he formed his own business, Bruce Chemical Corporation. Bruce later retired in September of 2006.

Bruce’s passions were playing golf at Idle Hour Country Club in Macon where he was a member and taking his boat deep sea fishing off the coast of Amelia Island. He loved singing and performing as a member of the Macon Civic Club. But what was most important to him, was his participation in his church, Christ Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir; he served many years there on the Vestry and multiple times as Senior Warden!

Bruce leaves behind his adoring wife of 72 years, Eleanor Richardson Bishop; his daughter, Kathryn Bishop Tosh (Pete), his son, Bruce Jonas Bishop, Jr. (Christine) and his grandchildren: Michael Bell Wilkins, Jr. (Rachael), William Bishop Wilkins, Jena Bruce Bishop, Bruce J.
