Mr. Brian K. Powell, 45, of Macon, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023. A visitation will be held at Bradley Baptist Church, Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 6:00PM, with the memorial service to follow at 7:00PM, with the Reverend Steve Johnson officiating.
Brian was born in Macon, and attended Union Elementary School, Miller Middle School, and later graduated from Central High School in 1996. Brian loved the game of baseball and played ball for nearly his whole life. After playing Little League ball, he pitched for the Central High School Chargers for all four years and was even scouted for a career in the Major Leagues.
Brian was smart and capable and was someone who could do anything he put his mind to. He worked most recently in lawn maintenance, but his favorite and most important work was the time he was able to stay home raising his daughter, Alyssa. Brian enjoyed fishing and spending time with his father at Lake Tobesofkee. One of his favorite ways to show love to his friends and family was to cook for them, sometimes using them as his taste-testers.
As a son will often do, Brian didn’t always see eye-to-eye with his mother. They had numerous conversations in which each of them would always try to get in the last word. His mother remembers that every time, no matter what their disagreement, Brian’s last words to her would always be, “I love you, Mama”.
Although he was sometimes far away, he never missed a call from his little girl. Alyssa will never forget the time she was in the hospital and Brian drove for six hours to be with her, just so she wouldn’t feel alone. She says, “He had the biggest heart, forevermore.”
Though he will be greatly missed, anyone who knew Brian knows he is having a great conversation with God right now.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel and Lillian Powell, Charlotte Biggs, Madison “Buck” Fennell, and Joanne Avant Pruitt; and his father, Joseph Franklin Powell. He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Young (Bryan), of Gray; brothers, Stephen Powell, of Macon, David Powell, of Macon, and Jason Powell, of Panama City, Florida; daughter, Alyssa Kate Powell and her mother, Jessica Welch, both of Forsyth; nieces, Taylar Grace Johnson, (Hunter), of Macon, and Emma, Hannah, and Lillie Powell, of Macon; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a savings account for Brian’s daughter, Alyssa K. Powell, care of Cheryl Young, 618 Cumslo Road, Gray, GA 31032.
