Bobby Doyle Whiddon, died July 13, 2018.
Born May 16, 1947 to Sam Sanford “Buddy” and Odell Whiddon, Bobby grew up in and around Campbellton, Florida where he excelled in many things but particularly basketball, winning the State Basketball Championship his junior year. He also fell in love and married his high-school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Longshore on May 13, 1967. After serving in the United States Airforce from 1966 to 1970, he relocated his family to Macon. GA and worked with his Uncle Howard as a welder for many years. Moving to Gray, GA in 1975, he raised one daughter and four sons and began a career with Brown and Williamson.
A devout Christian Man, he set an example for all to see and made sure his family learned what serving Christ really means. A Deacon for many years, he spread the word of God through few words but many actions. He allowed God to speak to others through his quiet and servant ways; a trait that all who knew him, admired and respected.
As an athlete, he supported his children in many sports, although none of them could ever best him at his primary sport, basketball. He would spend many evenings beating them at a friendly game of “horse” or “around the world”. He loved watching them play ball and spent time coaching them in their younger years. His love for his family showed every day as he worked hard to provide all they needed.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Longshore Whiddon; daughter, Leslie Head and husband, Ray; son, Nathan Whiddon and wife, Stephanie; son, Stephen Whiddon and wife, Tonya; son, William Whiddon and wife Rachel; son Michael Whiddon and wife Cindy; and eight grandchildren; Maegan Whiddon, Danielle Whiddon, Zachary Head, Zaynah Head, Jacie Whiddon, Brady Whiddon, WilliamAllen Whiddon and Andrew Whiddon and one sister, Judith Whiddon Crosby.
The Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, July 16 at Haddock Baptist Church, with Dr. Ron McClung and Dr. Benny Pate officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Flowers will be accepted or you may make a donation to your favorite charity.
