Bobby "Bob" Jones, 89, of Macon, GA, passed away on October 26, 2017 at Pine Pointe Hospice surrounded by his family. Bob was born on February 12, 1928 to Andrew Ferris Jones and Frances Norten Jones. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Mispillion obtaining the rank of Seaman Second Class. As Bob said, he spent his time aboard "scraping rust and painting decks". Bob retired from Robins Air Force Base to enjoy a life of travel and golf. Bob was a kind and giving man who brightened the life of all who knew him. He was a former Boy Scout Leader of the troop located at Liberty United Methodist Church and a former member and past president of the Rutland Lions Club, The Eagles Club, and The American Legion. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Central Georgia Senior Golf Association. Bob was an active member of the Forest Hills UMC Marshall Ministries Sunday School Class (fka) Marshall Singles Sunday School Class and was always "up" for any activities of the group including their parties, dances, and travels. He particularly enjoyed sharing his antics in the production of their many skits. Bob loved all things "art related". He was involved with The Macon Little Theater including backstage roles in the preparation of set designs and backdrops and had an occasional on-stage role in their productions. He was a skilled artist with a passion for carving. Many of his works have been shared with friends and loved ones over the years and his Christmas ornament creations are heirlooms destined to be passed down to future generations of his family. Bob's parents, his brothers, AJ, of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Richard of Griffin Georgia, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nancy Kennedy-Jones, his children Andy Jones of New Port Richey, Florida, Jan Vandevanter (Peter) of Washington, D.C., Gail Nicholson (Gary) of Greensboro, Georgia, Joy Lawhon (Dan) of Macon, Georgia, and brother Dr. Ken Jones of Augusta, Georgia. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild. From scuba diving to art to family, Bob Jones embraced life. He was a loving and supportive husband, an affectionate and giving father, a doting Grandfather, and a friend to all he met. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held on Wednesday, November 1st at the Hart's Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA, with Pastor Horace Holmes officiating. Visitation will be held at 2:00 with services immediately following at 3:00. Burial will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Brenda Watts and Karen and John Fordham for their many years of compassionate care-giving.
