Billy Walker Jones

Billy Walker Jones, 91, went to be with his Lord on June 25, 2017. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Stone Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Dry Branch. Reverend Fred Evers will officiate. Donations may be made to Stone Creek Baptist Church, 854 Riggins Mill Rd, Dry Branch, Georgia, GA 31020. Dr. Jones earned his bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University, master's degree from the University of Georgia and doctorate degree from Miami-Dade. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II aboard the USS Gage in the South Pacific. Dr. Jones was retired from the State of Georgia as a Vocation Rehabilitation Specialist. He was an historian who authored books on Stone Creek Baptist Church, Senator Dudley Hughes, Dry Branch Kaolin mines, the history of Twiggs County, and several other topics. He was an educator and principal in the Twiggs County School System. Following his teaching career, he sold text books for the American Book Company, now called Litton Industries. Dr. Jones is survived by his daughters, Janet J. Nichols and Beth R. Jones; son, Craig T. Jones; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Jackie Jones (Betty); and sister-in-law, Sybil Jones. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
