Billy Joe "Bj" Hunnicutt

Billy Joe “BJ” Hunnicutt, 85, passed away at his home on July 31, 2018 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00AM at Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, GA with Reverend Randy Darnell officiating. Interment will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Hart’s from 5:30PM-7:30PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jay’s Hope, 1157 Forsyth Street, Macon, GA 31201 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

BJ was born and resided in Macon all his life. He graduated from Lanier High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for 4 years during the Korean War. BJ retired from AT&T after 31 years as an Installation Manager at Warner Robins Air Force Base. He had a short retirement before deciding to return to work for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department for the next 13 years. BJ was also a Mason for over 50 years.

BJ was a devoted husband to his wife Alice of 55 years. Their marriage can stand as a testament that we could all learn from. He was the type of father that others could only envy. Stern when needed, but always loving. He was a good man with many good friends. If you were lucky enough to have met him, then you never forgot him.

BJ was predeceased by his mother, Sara Ray Hunnicutt; and brother, Dalton Hunnicutt.

BJ is survived by his loving wife, Alice Hunnicutt; 3 children: Kristy (Mike) Jones, Suzanne (Chris) Bedingfield, and Billy Joe “Jay” (Heather) Hunnicutt, Jr; 2 grandchildren: Tucker Bedingfield and Jaxson Hunnicutt; brother-in-law, Mike (Nina) Moore; sister-in-law, Martha Hunnicutt; and many nieces and nephews.
