Billie Mcafee Greene

July 5, 1922 — April 17, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Billie McAfee Greene announces her peaceful passing, at the age of 95, on April 17, 2018. "Billie", as she was known to all, was born July 5, 1922 in Wrightsville Georgia to the late Lotis and Ila McAfee. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School and thereafter attended business school in Macon prior to working at Robins Air Force Base during World War II. After the War, she met and soon married war hero and former football star, Tom E. Greene Jr., her devoted husband until his unexpected death in 1973. Ever resilient, Billie carried on, as an active and loved member of the community, including being a member of Vineville, Methodist Church, an awarded member of the Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission, the Garden Club of Macon and Idle Hour Country Club. Throughout her entire life, she had a deep love for Macon and its people. Billie, truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures like playing bridge and being with her friends. Billie had a strong passion for her family. As one of five brothers and sisters, she was the last surviving family member of her generation. More than anything, she loved her sons, Tom and Steve, their wives, Jessie and Cheryl, and her beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was happiest when they were around her. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Jessie Greene of Athens and Steve and Cheryl Mihalko Greene of Stillwater, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Laurel Greene and Cathleen Greene of Athens, Alex Greene (Tiffany) of Athens, Mary Brinson Black (Barton) of Atlanta and Tom Greene IV (Amanda) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and her adored great grandchildren, Mary Maddox Greene, Charlie Norton Greene and "Lady" Anne Bennett Greene of Athens; her namesake "Billie" Black and "Jess" Black of Atlanta, Holly Greene of Athens; and Tommy's children, Wyatt Cuneo and Sarah Grace Greene of Coeur d'Alene. She is also survived by her much-loved nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Her beloved niece, Esther Maddux of Athens, was with her constantly in her last years and was a great source of inspiration. Billie's family would like to thank the following special people who helped to make her last year comfortable and meaningful: Her friend and companion, Karla Murphy; Meranda Hood and her team of caregivers; and Compassionate Care Hospice.
