Betty Mcamis Pierson

Betty McAmis Pierson, 83, died Friday, April 24, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, with The Reverend John Kinser officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery will be private for the family. The family will greet friends for an hour before the Monday service. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care Options, 1125 Walnut Street, Macon, 31201 or to First Presbyterian Church, 682 Mulberry Street, Macon, 31201. Mrs. Pierson, widow of the late Calvin Pierson, was born in Greene County, TN, and lived in Macon for most of her life. She was retired from Northside Animal Hospital where she was the receptionist for 15 years. Before that, she spent several years supervising the first lunchroom at First Presbyterian Day School. Throughout her life, she supported and volunteered for Vine-Ingle and Teen-Age Baseball, the Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts. A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School for many years. She was an avid fan and supporter of the Atlanta Braves and the Mercer Bears basketball program. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Dickinson of Jacksonville Beach, FL; her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Robin Pierson of Macon; her granddaughters, Jennifer Dickinson Reaser of Los Angeles, CA, and Marjorie Dearstone Dickinson of Jacksonville, FL; eight sisters, Fredrica Armstrong of Rogersville, TN; Ruth Shelton and Linda McAmis of Greeneville, TN; Phyllis Reynolds of Afton, TN; Anita Morelock of Fayetteville, GA; Judith Edson of Oxford, GA; Joyce Knipfer of Loganville, GA; and Irene Broyles of Oxnard, CA; one brother, Stanley McAmis of Greeneville, TN; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
