Betty J. Parsons

Betty J. Parsons passed away August 19, 2017 at age 85. She was the daughter of Bernice and Herbert T. Bradberry of Marietta GA. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 10 AM with a memorial service to follow at Riverside United Methodist Church at 2PM. Reverend Chip Strickland and Reverend John Irwin will officiate. Mrs. Parsons is survived by her two sons; Jeff and Chris (Sheila), and four grandchildren; Ashley Marie, Kellen Christopher, Mackenzie Jean and Mary Elizabeth, sister-in-law; Charlene Parsons Hawkins (Maurice) of Richmond Virginia and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Evans Parsons, her brother, Hubert Thomas Bradberry and two infant twin grandsons, Evan Joseph and Matthew Alan Parsons. Mrs. Parsons was raised in Marietta GA. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1949. She was married to Roy Evans Parsons on May 11, 1951. The marriage lasted lovingly until his death on March 20, 2008 at age 82. The move to Macon GA came in May 1960 with Roy's business-related transfer. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend of many. She was a secretary and administrative assistant at Mercer University in the offices of the treasurer, vice president for finance, college religious life and senior minister to the university from February 1974 until June 1988. Her volunteer work was a primary source of fulfillment to her and she volunteered over the years with the Macon Outreach at Mulberry UMC and Riverside UMC serving as a visitor to senior shut-ins. She was a member of the Chancel Choir for a number of years, member of the Beaty-Gray Sunday School Class and held numerous offices in the United Methodist Women. She was deeply respected and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Riverside United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
